Amy Verworn
COO

About Amy

Amy Verworn has been with Vitalogy EMS since it was first envisioned in early 2021. What began as assisting her husband, Brodie Verworn, to create the company from the ground up, has evolved into an "all chips in" mentality and commitment. Her role has grown as the company has grown, and she currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. Today, Amy is integral in much of the day-to-day operations and looks forward to the future of Vitalogy EMS.

Amy brings not just her compassion for others and enthusiasm for problem solving, but over two decades of healthcare experience. She was first certified as a CNA in 2003, working between Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, and Home Healthcare until completing the Radiologic Technology program at FVCC, Kalispell, MT, in 2008. Amy worked as an x-ray and CT tech until December 2023, when she transitioned to dedicating solely to Vitalogy EMS. She was certified as an EMT in late 2019, unbeknownst to her just where that would lead.

Those who have met Amy most likely have been treated to pictures of the Boston Terriers, former and present, who have graced hers and Brodie's lives together. She often refers to them as her "empathy well fillers" and cannot imagine life without at least one.

Amy is most proud of the quality of care, extent of compassion, and breadth of expertise Vitalogy EMS has brought to the Flathead Valley and beyond.

Michael Bedick
EMS/Wildland Mng.

About Michael

From a young age, I have been dedicated to public safety. At 14, I became an MRT with the Boy Scout Explorers in Bloomfield, CT, and at 16, I earned my EMT certification. Over the years, I have served with a variety of agencies and organizations in many administrative roles. Upon returning to Montana, I applied my EMS expertise as an ECP for both volunteer and paid ambulance services, assisting in the establishment of teams and providing leadership within multiple EMS and SAR agencies. In this capacity, I trained with and instructed others in EMS, technical rope rescue, dive rescue and recovery, medical dive specialist, swift water, winter rescue, and mounted SAR operations.

Throughout my career, I have collaborated with fellow professional rescuers on various disaster and emergency deployments in diverse locations, providing critical assistance to those in need. Since founding Rocky Mountain Response in 2011, I have had the privilege of educating individuals and teams in EMS, wilderness medicine, AHA CPR/First Aid, and outdoor survival. This role has enabled me to partner with federal, state, and local teams, as well as community groups and individuals.

In 2022, I joined Vitalogy EMS, where I obtained my CIH endorsement, expanding my skillset and supporting new areas of EMS. Currently, I serve as EMS/Wildland Manager, balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on medical response and disaster deployments across the US and Canada. As a REMS team lead, I facilitate technical rescue and emergency response training, ensuring our team's continued readiness.

Additionally, I am an instructor for our education branch, working alongside a talented team of professionals to deliver high-quality EMS, CPR, First Aid, and other specialized training courses. Outside of work, I value time spent with my family, especially exploring the outdoors together.

About Jim

Dr. James “Jim” DuCanto, M.D. is an Anesthesiologist in private practice for the past 28 years in Wisconsin who is, for lack of a better description, obsessed with airway management innovation and teaching.

Having sought out most of the commercially available airway management devices and techniques, he has comprehensive understanding of the topic of airway management in the hospital and emergency management spaces, and has assisted multiple medical device manufacturers with improvements and innovations on their products, and furthermore, has contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature on the topic.

His recent innovations include the SALAD technique and Simulation System for airway decontamination from Nasco, the SSCOR DuCanto Suction Catheter, a large bore hyper curved rigid suction catheter from SSCOR, Inc., and the SEADUC, the first fully manual suction unit capable of performing the SALAD Technique from EM Innovations.

Jim ran the Anesthesiology clerkship for medical students and residents at the Advocate-Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2004 to 2020, and has the position of Medical Director of the Mid-State Technical College’s EMS Program in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin since 2019.  His attitude toward work-life balance is simple—“Balance is achieved when you take self-care seriously, and you do everything you can at work and home to learn and improve yourself.”  Stay frosty.
